Joy is an author and entrepreneur, but her favorite role is that of mom to her two daughters, Penelope and Millie. Joy has a Masters in Education and worked in higher education for ten years before joining forces with her sister Jules in the photography industry. Joy took the lead with the marketing and sales, touring the country with her sister speaking to photographers and helping them to be successful in their businesses.
As an entrepreneur and business woman, she’s been honored to have shared her know-how of sales and marketing with others on Creativelive.com, Joy of Marketing.com, and at various conferences and workshops around the world, the most notable being Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI).
However, Joy’s latest venture deviates from that to address an issue that is near and dear to her heart - raising children. When her girls were younger, Joy struggled with how to raise them as adjusted, well behaved, socially responsible children. Her idea of Good Fairies Nora & Leo™ grew from her own trial and error as a parent. The girls would earn jewels for agreed upon good behavior and once they earned 20, “Nora” would surprise them by “magically” replacing the jewels with rewards. It was a great way to teach delayed gratification and reward their positive behavior at the same time. When she realized other parents could benefit from this idea, Joy decided to start a business bringing Nora & Leo to the world.
Each kit includes a beautifully illustrated book, 20 colorful & chunky jewels, a super cute Fairy doll or Pirate doll, a treasure chest, a progress report counter, and a parent guide booklet. After nearly two years in the making, her latest project — Nora & Leo, The Simple Solution to Positive Parenting — hit kickstarter.com on October 13, 2015 and earned ⅓ of its funding in the first 24 hours.
When Joy’s not championing positive parenting technique or double-tapping images on Instagram, you can find her checking out the latest cool online app with her teenage daughters, and taking naps with her first-born fuzzy child, a cat named Lewis.
